What Does 2019 Have In Storage?

The New Year is here! All bright eyed and bushy tailed, filled with possibilities and exciting new opportunities. Many people will be finding new jobs, moving to parts unknown, or starting new relationships. But with all the uncertainties out there, the big question is… What does 2019 have in ‘store-age’ for you? This month we will be focusing on this theme to illustrate how easy it us to save money, time, and energy in 2019 with Big Box Storage.

Part one of our four part series, “What does 2019 have in storage”:

How about a better apartment? If you are tired of the neighbors constantly barking dog, or maintenance not fixing your work orders, it may be time to move. Moving can be such a pain, though. Going through the trouble of renting a truck and worrying about liability on the road, or having to ask all your friends with a truck to help you move on their only day off with only lunch and a six pack as reward is not a good time. Not so with Big Box Storage! We pride ourselves in keeping it easy. First, make a reservation either online or by calling our office. Then have one or more “Big Boxes” delivered to your address, fill it at your leisure, and we’ll pick it up and take it to your new place. Easy as that!

Forget having to rent, load, and unload a truck. That takes too much time and energy! So many people are finding out how easy it is to use curb to curb moving with Big Box Storage on the speed dial. It’s time for you to find out too! Make a reservation today and ask about our great New Years’ specials!

Big Box Storage. Pack it at your place, store it at ours!

Big Box Storage Sponsors Mama’s Kitchen

Thanksgiving is that time of year when families come together and give thanks for the bounties they’ve received that year. It’s a time to strengthen friendships and family bonds over a meal or sports event and regret the amount of deserts we consume. In San Diego particularly we are thankful for our Big Box customers that entrust their treasures with us – and the beautiful weather, of course! But as we get closer to this annual day of appreciation of all we have, it’s impossible to not think of those that have not.

With all the statistics that are floating around regarding the those in need in San Diego, it leaves us with a desire to do more, so this year we reached out to Mama’s Kitchen to see what we could do to help.

Mama’s Kitchen is a community-driven organization that believe that everyone is entitled to the basic necessity of life – nutritious food. Their nutrition services improve the lives of vulnerable women, men, and children. They envision a community where all individuals with critical illnesses are no longer vulnerable to hunger. With the support from the community, they prepare and deliver nutritious meals for those struggling with HIV, cancer, or other critical illnesses who are too sick to shop and cook for themselves. Mama’s Kitchen strives to help their clients stay healthy, preserve their dignity, and keep their families together by providing free, culturally appropriate home delivered meals, along with pantry services and nutrition education.

Big Box Storage is proud to sponsor Mama’s Kitchen to provide more meals to those in need during the Thanksgiving holiday. We encourage any of our followers to do the same to ensure no one in need goes hungry. For more information on Mama’s Kitchen visit their website at https://www.mamaskitchen.org.

Big Box Storage sponsors Boys and Girls Club Golf Day

Big Box Storage was proud to sponsor the East County Boys and Girls Club Golf Day charity event held July 13, 2018 at Sycuan Golf Resort.

In attendance were more than 175 Club supporters who made this golf tournament one of the largest, most eagerly awaited in San Diego’s East County.

The goal of the Boys and Girls Clubs is to provide a safe, clean environment for 3,000 children ages 5-18 to enjoy after school and during school vacations. Activities are prepared by trained, professional staff to provide a positive impact on their members. No child is denied membership to the Clubs due to inability to pay the $50 annual fee. In order to accomodate the needs of their members and the quality of service they deserve, the East County Boys and Girls Clubs have asked for the help of the community and beyond.

We hope that we could encourage others to donate and support their cause, for the children of San Diego.

Big Box Storage Sponsors April Pools Day

We are ready to shake off “winter” and dive into spring here in San Diego, but before we get too deep we think it’s important the kiddos learn some valuable water safety lessons – all while enjoying a fun day with the family. So Big Box Storage is sponsoring April Pools Day – a water safety festival hosted by Bud Kearns Pool on Morley Field Drive in San Diego.

FREE DAY TO PROMOTE WATER SAFETY EDUCATION!!

April Pools Day is a water safety festival. The pool is open and free of charge, and a variety of fun and interactive booths are set up on deck. The goal is to promote water safety education in a fun and family-oriented environment. Those who attend will have an opportunity to meet Josh the Otter, wear lifejackets, play with giant inflatables, learn how to provide CPR, play games and make crafts in the KidsZone. Free sunscreen and prizes will be provided to all. Join the fun, learn how to swim and support the community effort to prevent drowning! – APRIL POOLS DAY- (Free) Community Water Safety Festival Facebook Page

Big Box Storage presents the October Teacher of the Month!

Big Box Storage presents the October Teacher of the Month!

Congratulations Ms. Shoopman from Piedmont Hills High School. You are the Big Box Storage Teacher of the Month! This comes at a time where it seems like everyone (not just students) could use a little counseling. We are thankful that you have created a safe space for the students in your school to talk about their dreams and aspirations, and hope that by attending this conference you discover wonderful tools to pass on to our next generation of thinkers and leaders.

From the teacher:

“I need the registration and lodging covered so I can attend a conference that helps counselors improve their career and educational planning for our at-risk youth.”

My Students

My students are well-mannered, hard-working and driven. They value education and the opportunities an education can provide. Many of my students come from families that came to the United States to provide their children with these opportunities, and my students work hard to honor their parents’ sacrifices. My students have to be reminded that it is o.k. to struggle and to not always be perfect; as we often grow more from failure than success. My counselees value diversity and celebrate different cultures and lifestyles. I feel honored to work with such an incredible group and learn as much, or more, from them as they learn from me.

My Project

This project will cover the cost of lodging and registration for the Get Focused Stay Focused conference, which will allow me to learn how to help even my most at-risk students overcome barriers to make college seem like a reasonable possibility regardless of their obstacles.

Some of the information provided at this conference includes: provide students with an online 10-year Career & Education Plan, provide a strategic plan for reaching every learner with a comprehensive guidance course in 9th grade and follow-up modules in 10th – 12th grades, improve motivation as students answer “Who am I? What do I want? How do I get it?” and realize that they need to take initiative to reach their goals, develop students’ financial literacy skills and teach them how to be independent adults in the future”

We think the work that you are doing is incredibly valuable and necessary and hope that this small token of recognition helps you reach your goals. We are excited for you to attend the conference and bring home valuable tools to help the at-risk youth in your charge.

Do you know someone that deserves to be recognized as our next Teacher of the Month? Make room for fun!

Here in sunny San Diego, the property value (and subsequently the rent) is going nowhere but UP. This has made for a very hot button topic around town when talking about affordable housing and vacation rentals. Even the smallest of units can fetch over $2000/month! But there’s another stream of consciousness that runs along the same vein and it is just starting to pulse with the energy of the millennial generation throughout the states.

With the costs of homeownership and renting on the rise, it’s no wonder that more and more young people are staying home and entertaining guests rather than going out to bars or clubs.

Simple fact. It is just too expensive to go out multiple nights a week and spend hundreds of dollars on the average late 20’s income in San Diego – which might be why sharing a home cooked meal together with friends is making a comeback!

At this point you are probably wondering how this relates to portable storage. Hang with me here! We are just around the riverbend.

Where are you going to entertain with no room in your house? Every single inch of your home is precious real estate space, and you are using it WRONG! You know what we mean. For example, that hall closet that you can’t hang your friend’s jacket in because all the “out of season” clothes take up the space, or the spare bedroom that Becky can’t use to sleep off the bottle of wine because there’s no space for a guest bed. All perfect examples of why you NEED a convenient storage solution.

Portable storage is different from regular self-storage. At Big Box, we actually deliver a portable storage unit called a ‘Big Box’ RIGHT TO YOUR DOOR! You are then free to pack your belongings at your own pace. Once you’re done, we will come and pick up the Big Box and return it to our facility. Simply as that! Becky can rest off the Cabernet comfortably in the quiet guest bedroom, instead of the couch.

Stop paying thousands a month to store stuff you’ll hardly ever use. Use that space to entertain friends! Our Big Box is GUARANTEED the lowest price in San Diego for portable storage, so you know you are getting the best deal in town. Give us a call today and find out why we are San Diego’s #1 portable storage company.

Big Box Storage Sends Relief Aid To Hurricane Victims

What seems to be a flurry of natural disasters within the past few weeks has led to catastrophic loss to our neighbors in the coastal cities to the east. Countless families have been uprooted with nothing left but a shell of what once was their homes. Oddly enough, it’s the tumultuous times we face that bring people closer together. As they reach out for a helping hand, it heartens us to see so many people, businesses and individuals, reaching back towards them in every form possible.

People loaded up their boats and headed east en masse, shelters took in hundreds of dogs, and millions of dollars were raised to provide aid and support to those that needed it the most in the damaged areas. The call for help did not go unanswered.

A group of local community members, including Lisa Vidaurri – a member of The Foundry Church in Escondido have put together a shipment of various supplies ranging from household goods like cleaning products, gloves, brooms, trash bags to construction equipment including tools and machinery. They came to us and asked for help getting it to Houston and we were thrilled to be able to pitch in and do what we can to help those in need.

In just a few days, The Foundry’s sister church in Houston will be receiving not only diapers and dog food, but also hope to look forward to better days and strength to rebuild their community.

If you are still looking for ways to help, check out this article from KUSI San Diego that lists many trusted local organizations such as the Rotary Clubs, Food Banks, Humane Societies, and the United Way who are accepting donations now. Even though the media buzz has calmed down, the need is still very strong. Please consider giving today, whether it is financially or through donating goods.

Big Box Storage Presents September’s Teacher of the Month!

A big congratulations to Ms. Smith from Gage Elementary School in San Diego! You’re the Big Box Storage Teacher of the Month, and we’re thrilled to celebrate the amazing work you’re doing. It’s clear you’ve got a knack for inspiring your 5th graders and getting them excited about science—a truly impressive achievement!

From the Teacher:

“My students are in need of some great science books to keep their curiosity alive and kicking!

About My Students:

I teach a wonderfully diverse group of kids from various backgrounds and financial situations. Each student comes with their own unique challenges, but they all share one thing in common: a drive to succeed. Some need extra help, but they’re all eager to learn and achieve their goals.

It’s my greatest joy to see each student reach their potential. I work hard every day to show them that learning can be exciting and that they’re worth every bit of effort it takes to help them master new skills.

My Project:

My students are absolutely crazy about science! Last year, I was thrilled to see even the kids who weren’t initially interested in science become enthusiastic learners. They’ll devour anything science-related!

The books I’m hoping to get will support the 5th grade Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These standards dive deep into science, encouraging kids to ask questions and seek out answers. The books will show them different types of scientists at work and help them understand the world around them. I want them to see how science connects to everything and get excited about exploring it further.”

We’re excited to help make science even more fun and impactful for your students. We hope these books spark even more curiosity and learning!
