Big Box Storage a donation site for S.T.E.P.s Baby Drive

We all know someone who is always giving—whether it’s their time, energy, or resources. They step in to help without expecting anything in return, tackling problems others might overlook. Unfortunately, when these generous individuals need help, their kindness is often not reciprocated.

Now, imagine this person is a member of our armed forces. Our service members dedicate themselves to protecting our country, often at great personal sacrifice. Yet, when they face financial crises or other hardships, they too may find themselves in need of support.

This is where organizations like the Support The Enlisted Project (S.T.E.P.) step in. S.T.E.P. assists junior active duty enlisted members, recently discharged Veterans, and their families in Southern California who are facing financial difficulties. Their mission is to help these individuals and families achieve long-term financial stability through counseling, education, and grants to address urgent needs.

This month, Big Box Storage is proud to partner with S.T.E.P. for their annual baby drive. We’re hosting a donation site at our office to collect essential items for families in need. Your contributions can make a significant difference. Here’s how you can help:

  • Diapers and Wipes: Always in high demand, these basics are crucial for any new parent.
  • New or Gently Used Baby Clothes and Toys: Gently used items are often just as good as new and greatly appreciated.
  • New or Gently Used Strollers and High Chairs: These are essential for daily activities and make life a bit easier for new parents.
  • New Car Seats, Booster Chairs, and Cribs: Safety is paramount, and new or gently used items can provide peace of mind.
  • Retail or Grocery Gift Cards: These cards offer flexibility for families to purchase what they need most.

If you’ve ever experienced the kindness of a stranger or benefited from someone’s generosity, you understand how powerful and reassuring it can be. Now, you have the chance to be that person for our troops and their families. Your donation will help alleviate some of the burdens they face and show your support for their service.

Donations can be dropped off at Big Box Storage, located at 7077 Consolidated Way, San Diego, CA 92121. Every item you contribute will go directly to families who need it most. Let’s come together to support our military families during their time of need. Your generosity will help ensure that these brave individuals and their loved ones receive the assistance they deserve.

Big Box Storage Presents February’s Teacher of the Month!

Congratulations to Ms. Kvalstad from Solana Pacific Elementary School in San Diego! You’re the Big Box Storage Teacher of the Month, and we’re thrilled to celebrate the amazing work you’re doing. Your creativity and dedication to seeing the unlimited potential in your students are truly inspiring.

From the Teacher:

“I’m honored to teach a wonderfully diverse group of students who represent over 50 countries, including those with special needs or learning disabilities. Each student brings their own unique perspective and potential to the classroom.

My students are future scientists, engineers, mathematicians, writers, and explorers. They thrive on hands-on, real-world tools that help bring their ideas to life. At our school, we embrace project-based learning and STEM projects to make education engaging and fun.

Right now, we’re hoping to get a 3Doodler Start EDU Bundle Set. This tool will let my students’ imaginative STEM projects come to life in 3D! With the 3Doodler, they can explore abstract concepts in math, science, art, and engineering in a tangible way. They’ll use it to design geometry in math, create 3D models of imaginary animals in science, and build weight-bearing bridges or roller coasters in engineering. This tool will make their learning more interactive and meaningful.

By funding this project, you’ll help my students explore, discover, and create in ways they never have before, sparking their curiosity and creativity.”

We’re excited to support your innovative approach to teaching and help you bring the 3Doodler to your classroom. We hope this tool ignites your students’ imaginations and sets them on the path to becoming the next generation of thinkers, builders, and innovators. We’d love to showcase their creativity on our social media—feel free to share their work with us!

Big Box Storage Sponsors 9 Homeless in San Diego

As winter settles in, San Diego’s usually mild weather turns cold, reminding us to bundle up and adjust. For most, this change is a minor inconvenience. But for those without a home, the drop in temperature can be a serious and dangerous challenge. Right now, there are around 1,162 people living outdoors in downtown San Diego—a number that has risen by 43 percent over the past year. For these individuals, the cold is more than just uncomfortable; it’s a daily struggle for survival.

If you’ve walked through downtown San Diego recently, you’ve probably seen people in need of help. It’s a tough situation, and it can be hard to know how to make a difference. That’s where the San Diego Rescue Mission comes in.

About the San Diego Rescue Mission

Since 1955, the San Diego Rescue Mission has been working to help the homeless, hungry, and those in need in San Diego. This non-profit organization provides essential services like shelter, food, and recovery programs. They are dedicated to improving the lives of those who are struggling and helping them find a path to a better future.

Last year, the Rescue Mission made a significant impact:

They provided shelter for men, women, and children for 163,885 nights.

They served 424,325 meals, which is more than 1,100 meals each day.

They rescued 152 people, offering them critical care and case management in their Recuperative Care Unit.

They took care of 600 children and 1,104 women, providing them with safety and food in emergency shelters.

Big Box Storage Steps Up

In support of these important efforts, Big Box Storage is excited to announce that we are sponsoring nine individuals experiencing homelessness through the San Diego Rescue Mission. Our sponsorship will cover their shelter, food, and care around the clock. We hope to bring some comfort and stability to these nine people during this challenging time.

We believe that by shining a light on this issue, we can inspire others to get involved and make a difference. If you’re moved to help, we encourage you to consider making a donation to the San Diego Rescue Mission. Every little bit helps, and your support can make a big difference in someone’s life.

How You Can Help

If you want to support this cause, please visit the San Diego Rescue Mission’s website to make a donation. Your contribution will help ensure that more people in need get the care and support they require to improve their lives.

At Big Box Storage, we are proud to partner with the San Diego Rescue Mission and support their vital work. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to find hope and a path to a better future. By working together, we can make a positive impact and help those who are struggling find the assistance they need.

Thank you for considering this important cause and for joining us in making a difference in our community. Your generosity can bring warmth and hope to those who need it most. Give the Big Box team a call at (619) 353-5995 to see how you can help with the cause or if you are in need of easy San Diego storage solutions.

Big Box Storage presents the January Teacher of the Month!

Big Box Storage presents the Teacher of the Month!

Congratulations Ms. Alcaraz from Gage Elementary School in San Diego. Big Box Storage appreciates your commitment to the students in your charge and are thrilled to recognize your well deserved efforts.

From the teacher:

My students are fun, energetic, and filled with wiggles! We are beginning the year with 20 4-year-olds and now 5 year-olds! This is amazing, but also really challenging. We are developing our classroom community focusing on respect, personal space, and social skills.

My kiddos are eager to learn how to write in Spanish from their ‘Maestra’! They have yet to explore the world and they are excited to start their educational career with me. My students are clever, creative, and witty! They have huge smiles on their faces every morning (after they cry about their parents leaving them). As a brand new TK classroom, we continue to lack resources to help us develop our learning.

As the year goes on, my students are learning more vocabulary. The use of vocabulary is further extended in my classroom through social centers and play time. In order to help them build their vocabulary and expand their imagination, students need a concrete object to further their play. Having [learning tools] will help them gain proficiency in Spanish. With your help, students will be able to continue learning without knowing! It won’t feel like top-down teaching, but rather like play-time because well they will be learning through play.

Learning through play is such an important process in the education of young children. We would be more than happy to help with your request for learning tools to teach Spanish to the students of your classroom. Big Box Storage is fully invested in the future of our following generations and is proud to sponsor fine educators such as yourself.

Big Box Storage Celebrates A Season Of Giving

We love the holidays here at Big Box Storage! The parties, food, and decorations… It really is the best time of year. Nothing beats being with friends and family, eating homemade fudge, and giving presents to loved ones. (We think it always feels better to give than to receive).

Over the past two months, in the spirit of giving, we wanted to do some really nice things for our community and our followers. We just donated 1,000 meals to Feeding San Diego, a nonprofit committed to leading our local community in the fight against hunger by efficiently providing local children, families, seniors, and veterans access to food and nutritious meals. We provided microscopes for one local teacher’s classroom to help teach cell structure, and helped another teacher provide an iPad to her students to learn about stop motion filmography. We sponsored the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Event where funds collected went to lifesaving research and support for people battling cancer. And we partnered with the Serra Mesa Food Pantry to help provide storage for excess nonperishable food items.

But we didn’t stop there. To finish up our year of giving we wanted to make it memorable. We ran the #BigBoxBigGiveaway Sweepstakes where participants shared a picture of their holiday decor, and a random person was chosen to win a KitchenAid Professional Series Stand Mixer. We are secretly hoping a big batch of cookies somehow find their way to our office. It was a great turnout for participation as our timeline exploded with holiday photos with multicolored trees, naughty elfs, and plenty of cookies!

What does 2017 have in storage? Stick around and we will find out together! From all of your friends here at Big Box Storage, we hope you have a very Merry Everything and a Happy Always!

We have a Love/Love relationship with our Yelpers!

It’s always nice when you have a friend who will tell you if you look great, or when you have salad stuck in between your teeth from lunch. Yelp is that truthfully honest friend for us here at Big Box Storage.

We truly appreciate the constructive and overwhelmingly positive reviews we have received throughout the years. It is because of that honest feedback from our customers that we know when we need to check our teeth, and when we are looking good.

It’s not just us that benefit from these reviews, though. You, too, will have peace of mind knowing that we stop at nothing to make sure you are completely satisfied. Whether you are storing for the month or in it for the long haul, moving across town or across the country, our number one focus here at Big Box Storage is Stellar Customer Service. Every interaction, every time, our goal is to impress. But don’t take our word for it! See what your friends and neighbors have to say about San Diego’s Portable Storage Company.

Barry H – “These folks are as good as it gets”

Harrison B – “The whole experience was great–quick, efficient and pleasant. Highly recommended!”

Danielle Y – “The prices are reasonable, and their service is supremely convenient. They have good people working there. All are very helpful (from the call rep, to the drivers). I wish these guys good business for years to come, as they are a great local company to support.”

There’s a reason why we are one of the TOP RATED portable storage company in San Diego. We care about our customers and listen to what you have to say.

Big Box Storage Donates 1,000 Holiday Meals to Local Families

As a family-owned and operated business, Big Box Storage understands the importance of community and family support. With the holiday season approaching, we couldn’t ignore the reality that many San Diego children, seniors, and families face hunger during this time. To make a difference, we’ve come together to donate 1,000 meals to Feeding San Diego, a local nonprofit dedicated to addressing food insecurity and promoting dignity for those in need.

Feeding San Diego, founded in 2007, is the county’s leading hunger-relief organization. They focus on distributing healthy food with respect and dignity to residents struggling to find nutritious meal options. This vital nonprofit operates through the generosity of community and philanthropic support, working tirelessly to combat hunger through advocacy, education, and direct aid. Each week, they serve 60,000 children, families, and seniors by partnering with local agencies, school districts, corporate supporters, and a network of volunteers.

For us at Big Box Storage, this donation is more than just providing meals—it’s about alleviating the difficult choices that families face. It’s about ensuring that a mother doesn’t have to choose between feeding her children and buying a holiday gift, or that a grandmother doesn’t have to decide between a meal and essential medication. It’s about fostering a sense of community and care during the holiday season.

We encourage everyone who can to join us in supporting Feeding San Diego. Even a small contribution can make a big difference. By coming together, we can help put an end to hunger and bring a bit of joy and relief to those in need.

To make a donation or learn more about how you can help, visit Feeding San Diego’s website. Let’s work together to ensure that no one in our community has to face hunger this holiday season. Give the Big Box a team a call at (619) 353-5995 if you need storage this Holiday season.

Big Box Storage presents the December Teacher of the Month!

Big Box Storage presents the Teacher of the Month!

Congratulations Ms. Woodruff from Innovations Charter Academy in San Diego. We commend the hard work you put in at your school teaching the bright minds of our next generation. Further, we’re proud to support and donate to your classroom efforts

From the teacher:

“My students need microscopes in order to further our exploration of life science.

At my school, we emphasize the importance of Project Based Learning, Social and Emotional skills, and putting students in charge of their own learning. My class is full of energetic students who love to learn about new things and love to get involved in our community. As 7th graders, they are becoming more independent and are incredibly enthusiastic about making decisions for themselves at school. We have students from all over San Diego and because of that, have many different students from many different backgrounds. …[We] want to allow students to accomplish the goals and projects they have in mind with no monetary restrictions.

Since our students are at a charter school, we do not often get funding that regular public schools do for expensive items that would be used in the classroom. We have students who come from all different backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses and cultures and because of that, providing students with equal access to materials is important to me.

My students question and explore things in a hands-on way that would only be enhanced by adding these microscopes to our class. We will be starting our life science unit soon and students will need to explore basic cell structure as well as the structure and function of living systems; bones and muscles, organs and tissues, and plants and animals. These microscopes would allow students to actually interact and investigate the structure and functions of these systems on a microscopic level.”

We believe it is so important for students to learn the value in understanding facts pulled from data, and exploring the bounds of knowledge through first-hand exploration. All of us here at Big Box Storage sincerely hope this donation for the purchase of microscopes helps lifts the veil of the cellular world and aids your student’s scientific journey. It is a small token of our appreciation for everything you do in the classroom.

Big Box Storage presents the November Teacher of the Month!

Big Box Storage presents the Teacher of the Month!

Congratulations Teacher Hoyt from San Diego Cooperative Charter Schools Linda Vista.

Big Box Storage would like to recognize your hard work and passion in helping to shape our next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and artists. It’s because of educators like you, these young minds flourish in the world and make it a better place.

From Teacher Hoyt:

“I am lucky enough to be a credentialed art teacher at a free public charter school. Our school is special because we are a project based school and a co-operative. I am one of the founding teachers. I have taught at my school for 14 years and because of this I have been able to build a thriving art program. But our families aren’t wealthy and because of that our budget is tight. My students are very respectful of supplies and love new technologies.

My art program is different and unique because it is a choice based art program.

This looks different from traditional art programs because all the projects are based on student interest and projects are individualized based on what the child is into. Children are respected as artists and encouraged to be themselves.

Recently my school was able to update some of the technology in my classroom and my students have been in heaven! We are still in need of a quite a few things though. All the more tools, all the more magic we can make.

My classroom is different from traditional art room in that it is choice based art. This means kids are treated like artists and given the freedom to choose their favorite style of art they want to get good at. Students are expected to set personal goals for themselves in order to continuously grow and expand their artistic consciousness.

Currently I am asking for an iPad. I have a team of students interested in stop motion film making. I’d like to get them the technology they need to get going on this.”

We are happy to assist with fulfilling your classes’ need for an iPad, and encourage them to explore their creativity and have fun during the learning process. Big Box Storage invites you to submit their work so we can spotlight their talents across our social media. Thank you again for your efforts!

Big Box Storage partners with San Diego’s Serra Mesa Food Pantry

One of the biggest challenges our nation faces daily is hunger. Right here in San Diego, many people don’t know where their next meal will come from. To help our community, Big Box Storage has teamed up with the Serra Mesa Food Pantry to store non-perishable food items for families in need.

The Serra Mesa Food Pantry, a local non-profit, has been helping since May 2010. They provide food for individuals and families struggling to get basic nutritional necessities during tough times like illness, unemployment, or crisis. Their mission is simple: to lessen the impact of hunger in our community. As a partner agency of the San Diego Food Bank and Feeding San Diego, they distribute hundreds of meals every Wednesday from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Big Box Storage is proud to support such an important service. By offering our storage facilities, we help the Serra Mesa Food Pantry keep their operations running smoothly. Food insecurity affects many people, and it’s vital that we all do our part to help those in need. By storing non-perishable food items, we ensure the pantry has a steady supply to distribute to families and individuals who rely on their services.

With the holidays approaching, it’s a perfect time to reflect on our blessings and consider how we can make a difference in our community. We encourage you to pick up a few extra non-perishable food items during your next grocery trip and donate them to the Serra Mesa Food Pantry. They are located at 2650 Melbourne Drive, San Diego, CA 92123. Our goal here at Big Box Storage is to fill a Big Box with donations before Thanksgiving. Imagine the impact we could make if everyone contributed just a little bit.

For more information on how you can help or on San Diego storage solutions, you can call Big Box Storage at (619) 353-5995. Let’s make a difference together! Please like, share, and tweet this article to all your friends to help spread the word. The more people who know about our efforts, the more support we can gather. Together, we can combat hunger and support our neighbors in need. Let’s fill that Big Box and make this holiday season a little brighter for everyone.
